This past Sunday we celebrated Grandparents! Grandparents day is a day that needs to get more attention and I am one that needs to pay more attention to it!
Grandparents Day was initiated by a housewife, named Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade, in 1970. Because of Marian's hard work, Grandparents Day was approved by Congress and under President Jimmy Carter in 1978. One woman's voice was strong enough to be heard and her idea is now a National holiday celebrated by millions. Grandparents day falls on the first Sunday after Labor Day. The month of September was chosen in significance of the "autumn years" of life.
Along with many families recognizing grandparents day, so do most churches and schools. Every year our school's pre-k program has had a special day for grandparents to spend with their grandchild. This year was Jonathan's turn to spend a day with a grandparent at school. He was absolutely thrilled. I baked some scrumptious Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies to send that were a hit. The grandparents and kids did arts and crafts, story time, song time and snack time. What a wonderful bonding experience!

every year I tell myself that I really must do something special (at least a card) for Grandparents day ... and every year it passes without any to-do - shame on me!
